Current Status:
Access roads, water ditches, natural ponds and cascades around trees are created to slow down the water on the land and soak it into the soil.
Plant associations with the existing almond tree are explored, the soil is revitalized with surface cover, compost and mulch and ancestral seeds are scattered.
The soil is dry and poor in minerals.
Year 1:
After 4 seasons the renewed soil joins the natural cycle and the seeds recognize and interact with each other. Now the food forest cycle begins, with nitrogen fixers in the soil.
Year 5:
They produce crops of almost all foods and act as a forest for beneficial insects and birds. Plants that take advantage of the water available in the landscape provide shade for the soil and minimize evaporation.
Year 10:
After 10 years, the food forest becomes a micro-ecosystem in itself, improving the microclimate of the whole area, together with other natural ecosystems around it. This cycle is now sustainable and self-sustaining, with no external intervention required.
The color of the soil is dark brown, healthy and rich in species diversity.
